Sundarban,the magical mangrove



The Sundarban is the largest mangrove forest in the world.The Sundarbans means"the beautiful forest" lies in the district of greater Khulna which known as the south western part of Bangladesh. The name Sundarban may also have been derived from the Sundari trees. This Sundri trees are found in Sundarban in large numbers. Other possible explanations can be a source from "Samudraban".“Samudraban” is a Bengali word which means sea forest. Other possible explanations can be a source from "Chandra-bandhe" (name of a primitive tribe). But generally accepted view is the one associated with Sundari trees. The forest lies at the mouth of the Ganges.It is spread across areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal,India. The forest covers 10,000 sq.km of which about 6,000 are in Bangladesh and about 4,000 sq.k.m are in West Bengal,India.

The main attractions of this forest are wildlife photography including photography of the famous Royal Bengal Tiger, boating inside the forest will call recordings, nature study, wildlife viewing, wood-cutters and honey-collectors, meeting fishermen, peace and tranquility in the wilderness, seeing the world's largest mangrove forest and the revering beauty. There are now approximately 350 Royal Bengal tigers and about 25,000 spotted deer in the area. It is also a home of different species of birds, mammals, insects, reptiles and fishes. More than 130 species of fish and above 250 species of birds are in the Sundarban. It is a charm full place for the botanist, the lover of nature, the poet and the painter. Thousands of roundabout streams, rivers, creeks, and estuaries have improved its charm. Sundarbans is the natural home of the world renowned Royal Bengal Tiger, spotted deer, crocodiles, jungle fowl, wild boar, lizards, theses monkey and an countless assortment of beautiful birds. The most important tourist spots in Sundarban are Katka, Karamjol, Hiron point and Mandarbaria, Kochikhali. Hiron Point which another name is Nilkamal for tiger, deer, crocodiles, birds , monkey, and natural beauty. Katka for deer, tiger, varieties of birds and monkey, crocodiles, morning and evening symphony of wild fowls. Enormous area of green meadows running from Katka to Kachikhali (Tiger Point) provides opportunities for wild tracking. Tin Kona Island for deer and tiger.Every year a huge number of foreigners come here only to visit this unique mangrove forest. Local people also go to visit Sunderban every year.
