Mount Damavand, the highest volcanic peak in Iran

Mount Damavand also well-known as Donbavand, is a dormant volcano and the topest  peak in Iran with a particular position in the Persian mythology and tradition. Situated in the central Alborz Range, neighboring to Varārū, Sesang, Gol-e Zard and Mīānrūd, it is the highest peak in the Middle East and the highest volcano in all of Asia. However not volcanically energetic, there are fumaroles near the summit crater that leave sulfur, which were most lately recognized to be energetic since July 6, 2007. The mountain is situated close to the southern shore of theCaspian Sea, in Āmol county,Māzandarān, 66 kilometres (41 miles) northeast of Tehran.

Mt Damavand has a number of thermal springs with healing characters. These minral hot springs are mostly situated on the volcano's flanks and at the bottom, giving proof of volcanic warmth moderately near the outside of the earth. Although Damavand is supposed to be destroyed and while no significant eruptions are recorded, hot springs on the flanks and fumaroles  in the peak propose that a hot or cooling molten rock body is still present under the volcano Damavand. This ongoing activity, while slight, sulphorous fumaroles motionless produce gases at the peak and hot springs in the valleys testify to a outstanding heat source, indicates that Mount Damavand is a latent rather than an dead volcano. The most significant of these hot springs are situated in Abe garm Larijan in a village by the name Larijan in the district of Larijan in Lar Valley . The water from this spring is helpful in the action of constant wounds and skin diseases. Near these springs there are public baths with small pools for community use.

The best foremost resolution for mountain climbers is the new Iranian Mountain Federation Camp in Polour village, situated on the south of the mountain. There are at least 16 recognized routes to the peak which have different difficulties. Some of them are very unsafe and need rock mountaineering. The most accepted route is the Southern Route which has pace stamps and also a site halfway called Bargah Sevom Camp /Shelter  at 4220 m . The greatest route is the Northeastern and it takes two complete days to reach the peak starting from downhill village of Nāndal and a night stay at Takht-e Fereydoun , a two-story shelter. The western route is well-known for its sunset view. Sīmorgh shelter in this route at 4100 m  is a newly constructed shelter with two stories. There is a ice-covered waterfall / Icefall about 12m tall and the elevation of 5100m is the highest fall in Iran and Middle East.

An anthropologist of Mazandaran Cultural Heritage and Tourism Department, Touba Osanlou, has said that a suggestion has been made by a crowd of Iranian mountaineers to register the highest peak in the Middle East, Mount Damavand as a national heritage site. Mazandaran Cultural Heritage and Tourism Department has conservative the proposal, the Persian daily Jam-e Jam reported. Osanlou noted that the Iranian Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization is presently in the process of renaming an upcoming ancient party after Mount Damavand. "We have proposedTirgan Festivity, Tabari Nowruz, to be named as Damavand National Day," he added. Tirgan Festivity is held in Amol County’s Rineh region in Mazandaran region. It is nominated as one of the natural wonders.
